Conference Highlights from April 7-8, 2016
We were honored to hear from La June Montgomery Tabron, President & CEO of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation as our keynote speaker. Director of the Center on Community Philanthropy Dr. Charlotte Williams engaged with Ms. Tabron on topics of personal inspiration, the importance of elevating children, and new initiatives of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.
We heard from four experts of community philanthropy, David Beckwith, Dr. Emmett Carson, Dr. Celeste Clark, and Ramón Murguía. They are among seven scholars whose essays are published in our third compendium titled Community Philanthropy and Public Service: Practice Models of Giving, Civic Engagement, and Leadership Development. A digital copy of the compendium is available here.
We were inspired by two panels of community philanthropy leaders:
Clinton School Alumni Panel
Derrick Rainey – City Year Little Rock, Little Rock, AR
Trish Flanagan – Future School of Fort Smith, Fort Smith, AR
Brandon Mathews – Arkansas Food Bank, Little Rock, AR
Lori Walker – City of Pine Bluff Economic and Community Development, Pine Bluff, AR
We were energized, as always, by Little Rock’s own Dr. Sherece West-Scantlebury of the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation as our closing plenary speaker.
We hope you gained from the dialogue presented and have taken some thoughts and inspiration back to your communities. Thank you for joining us!
