Giannirakis Working with Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center

Clinton School graduate Marina Giannirakis (’19) has joined the Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center in Cleveland, Ohio. DVCAC operates under the mission to empower individuals, educate the community, and advocate for justice to end domestic violence and child abuse.

Giannirakis spends most of her time working with DVCAC’s confidential domestic violence shelter, which serves 20-40 individuals at any given time.

Additionally, Giannirakis is responsible for child and youth advocacy and programming, which can include facilitating group sessions with families and children, working with schools and Project Act to ensure children are enrolled while staying at the shelter, and working with DVCAC’s community partners to ensure they are receiving the resources they need.

“It is very challenging work, but I love it,” Giannirakis said. “I especially enjoy working through issues with the children and mothers in the house and empowering them to make their own decisions and helping them communicate effectively with each other.”

In addition to her Master of Public Service, Giannirakis earned her degree in sociology and criminology from John Carroll University. While attending the Clinton School, she was announced as a McLarty Scholar and enjoyed a semester-long fellowships at Vital Voices Global Partnership in Washington, D.C.
