Letter from the Dean
Dear Prospective Students,
Greetings from the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service. As a two-year graduate program with a new-generation curriculum, I would like to take this moment to share with you the opportunities offered here in this extraordinary setting. Located on the grounds of the William J. Clinton Presidential Center and Park in Little Rock, Ark., the Clinton School helps students gain knowledge and skills to further their careers in private-sector, non-profit, volunteer or government work. While learning valuable lessons about global leadership and civic engagement in the classroom, our students spend a large portion of their time in the field, participating in public service projects ranging from local work in the Mississippi River Delta, to international projects in places like China, Rwanda, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and the Sudan.
As one of three universities on the grounds of presidential libraries, the Clinton School of Public Service teaches about global leadership and civic engagement and promotes a vision of world leaders who are able to work effectively with individuals and organizations to build healthy, engaged and vibrant communities, both in Arkansas and throughout the globe. The Master of Public Service (MPS) degree and its focus on global equity are unique, as are the students who attend from around the world. In addition to President Clinton, among the many distinguished lecturers have been former Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and Madeleine Albright; Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer; Senator Bob Dole; actors John Lithgow and Sam Waterston; Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai; President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and journalists Gwen Ifill, Bob Woodward, Diane Rehm and George Stephanopoulos, among many others.
Along with the innovative curriculum and broad field experiences that are offered to our students, the Clinton School hosts public programs, guest lecturers and town hall meetings that feature internationally-prominent leaders on topics that are timely to the events of the day. In addition to President Clinton, among the many distinguished lecturers have been former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger; Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer; Senator Bob Dole; historian John Hope Franklin; Sylvia Matthews, executive director of the Gates Foundation; President José María Aznar of Spain; President Paul Kagame of Rwanda; Marta de Fox, wife of Mexican President Vicente Fox; Congressman John Lewis and Senator John Edwards.
With its exciting curriculum and diverse public programs, the Clinton School is committed to making a global impact, building leadership in civic engagement, and enhancing the capacity to work across disciplinary, racial, ethnic and geographical boundaries.
