Clinton School Impact Minute: PCSSD School-Based Health Center

Jenna Evans, a 2023 graduate of the Clinton School of Public Service, used her final Capstone project to assist with the development and launch of the first school-based health center for the Pulaski County Special School District.

Evans, an R.N. with experience as a school nurse, evaluated survey results from students, guardians, and staff within the school district.

Her findings showed that costs, insurance, and scheduling challenges were consistent barriers to student healthcare, and her final deliverable included recommendations for a brick-and-mortar school-based health center offering comprehensive services to students.

In August 2024, the Pulaski County Special School District’s first school-based health center launched for students and staff in partnership with Mainline Health.

The Health Center will address physical and behavioral health, offering physicals, treatment of acute and chronic conditions, and lab work, as well as services for group counseling, crisis intervention, and stress management.

It will be staffed with a primary care nurse practitioner, nurse, patient support specialist, and behavioral health provider.

The Clinton School Impact Minute is a recurring segment with Little Rock Public Radio, highlighting the Clinton School’s field service impact in Arkansas.

Since 2004, Clinton School students have completed nearly 700 field service projects with more than 300 organizations in Arkansas alone, creating immediate and long-term impact for businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies across the state.
