Students Help High School Earn Grant

Lee High School in Marianna, Ark., was recently honored with a grant of $3,125 from the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame for a program that Clinton School students Fernando Cutz, Nicky Hamilton and Spencer Lucker have developed and will implement in the 2011-2012 school year.

The three students wrote the grant for the upcoming program, Degrees for the Delta, a program they are launching to encourage students to pursue a college degree following high school. The program is a result of a service commitment the three students made at CGI-U earlier this spring.

The grant money will mostly fund college campus tours for juniors and seniors at Lee High School, but  money will also be allocated towards programming and workshops on the college application process, financial aid process, and how to get on the right track for post-secondary education.

The program will begin in September 2011 and will work with all students 9th-12th grades.
