What does it take to spark a love of reading in the next generation? For Emily Fischer, a graduate of the Clinton School of Public Service, it started with a vision, and a powerful community partnership.
Fischer worked with the Central Arkansas Library System to help plan the Hillary Rodham Clinton Children’s Library & Learning Center, a space designed to support literacy, learning, and family engagement.
She surveyed hundreds of library patrons, helped write a $50,000 grant to fund a sustainable greenhouse, and researched libraries across the country to shape a truly innovative space. Her input from parents, educators, and community leaders helped design interactive programs like reading clubs and family literacy nights.
The library serves hundreds of children and families each month, building stronger readers and stronger communities.
Fischer was honored with a dedicated reading bench at the library for her role in the planning process – a lasting tribute to her leadership and collaboration.
The Clinton School Impact Minute is a recurring segment with Little Rock Public Radio, highlighting the Clinton School’s field service impact.
Since 2004, Clinton School students have completed nearly 700 field service projects with more than 300 organizations in Arkansas alone, creating immediate and long-term impact for businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies across the state.
