Posted by ERIC WILSON – In commemoration of World AIDS Day, the Clinton Presidential Center hosted the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Founded in 1987, the Quilt is not only a powerful memorial, but it also serves as a useful tool in preventing new HIV infections.
Each block measures 12 square-feet. A typical block consists of eight, three-by-six foot panels. Currently there are 47,000 panels with more than 90,000 names on the Quilt.
Little Rock City Manager, Bruce Moore, kicked off the 24 hour reading of the names at 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon. Several Clinton School students volunteered for the graveyard shifts. Pictured above is student Jay Thompson, reading at 3:30 a.m. in the cold.
We appreciate their efforts, along with the dozens of volunteers who helped make this event possible.
