Tingquist Working with Pulaski County Community Services

Alex Tingquist (’20) is working as the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) Administrator for Pulaski County Community Services.

Pulaski County Community Services is a department within the Pulaski County Government aimed at providing economic development assistance, safe and affordable housing, quality of life essentials, and grants assistance to all residents and businesses within Pulaski County.

Tingquist is the lead administrator for HMIS, a data-based computer system that helps track and report instances of housing instability and homelessness in Arkansas.

“By assisting over fifty Community Housing Organizations throughout the state of Arkansas, I create more efficient ways to collect data on homelessness and provide general support to housing and homeless agencies utilizing HMIS,” Tingquist said. “I also oversee all reporting that is required by the state of Arkansas as well as HUD.”

Tingquist has been involved with homeless services for nearly a decade. As an AmeriCorps member, he worked as a VISTA at Our House, a transitional housing program in Little Rock that provides a pathway out of homelessness for individuals and families. He spent the summer of 2019 assisting the European Federation of National Organizations working with the Homeless (FEANTSA) in Brussels, Belgium, the only European NGO focusing exclusively on the fight against homelessness. For his final Capstone project, he completed a feasibility study with Jericho Way and St. Edward Catholic Church for transforming a former convent on the St. Edward campus into housing for college students experiencing homelessness.

In December 2019, Tingquist spoke about homelessness to fourth-grade students at Booker Arts Magnet Elementary School in Little Rock. He has previous volunteer experience for Habitat for Humanity and the University of Texas Poverty Simulation.

In addition to his Master of Public Service, Tingquist is a graduate of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville with a degree in social work.
