Spencer Lucker is a passionate public servant and community advocate, who serves as director of employer engagement strategy for the Detroit Mayor’s Workforce Development Board and Detroit at Work, the City’s workforce development system.
He leads a team that works with employers, training providers, and other stakeholders across high-growth industries to design the City’s strategy to recruit quality jobs and create opportunities for Detroiters to pursue meaningful careers. He previously worked for the Delta Regional Authority (DRA), a federal agency focused on regional economic and community development across eight states in the Mid-South. While at DRA, he worked on state and regional workforce strategy and entrepreneurship ecosystem building and led the Delta Leadership Institute. Spencer moved from Washington, D.C. to Detroit four years ago, since which he has quickly established himself as a local leader in workforce and community development.
Spencer is currently active on a number of boards serving Metro Detroit, including the NEXTGen executive board of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, the board of directors of the Jewish Community Relations Council/American Jewish Committee of Detroit, the regional advisory board of NPower (a national technology training program for opportunity youth), and the local advisory board of Repair the World. He is also a proud literacy mentor for Brilliant Detroit, an organization that seeks to build kid success neighborhoods. He is proud to be fully educated in Arkansas’ public education system, graduating with two B.A.s in International Relations and Spanish from the University of Arkansas and his Master of Public Service from the Clinton School of Public Service.
Spencer lives in the historic Boston-Edison neighborhood of Detroit with his wife Stephanie, his year-old twins Avi and Mila, and their dog Cosmo. Whether it’s across the country, state, or other side of town, Spencer loves a good road trip or bike ride, exploring new places and enjoying local food along the way.
