Posted by DEAN SKIP RUTHERFORD – Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has a group of Arkansans helping him in Iowa. In addition to his family (daughter Sarah is playing an important campaign role), they include former Senator Tim Hutchinson and his wife Randi; Former Highway Commission Chairman Jonathan Barnett of Siloam Springs; Debbie and David Haak of Texarkana; State Senator Gilbert Baker of Conway; Longtime aide and NFIB executive Sylvester Smith, and press secretary Alice Stewart.
Tyler Denton, Paul Neaville, Lucas Hargraves, Darren Peters, Bob Nash, Ben Handford, Russellville native Mary Streett, former State Treasurer candidate Mac Campbell and longtime Washington D.C. staffer and Hot Springs native Henry Woods are in Iowa for Hillary Clinton. Clark Jennings is there with John Edwards, Pat O’Brien is helping Barack Obama and Rob Walker and Nelson Peacock are campaigning for Joe Biden.
Arkansas friends and supporters of Governor Huckabee will gather at Little Rock’s Clear Channel for an election night watch party on January 3. Former Arkansas First Lady Gay White is helping coordinate the festivities.
Also, on the ground in Iowa, Clinton School student James Mitchell, who is blogging for us, ran into former President Bill Clinton on the campaign trail and then attended a John Edwards event. James provides valuable insight when he reports the impact of a Bill Clinton visit on an individual caucus turnout and why the former President is working rural Iowa. It’s good stuff. Check out what James has already written (and photographed) about being with Chris Dodd and Michele Obama at campaign stops.
For our Iowa Caucus watch party here at the school on January 3, add Jacob Weisberg, the editor of Slate, to the list of call in speakers.
