The study in the journal Foundation Review looks at giving, civic engagement and leadership development in small communities in Arkansas.
“I’m pleased that these national academic journals have recognized the importance of our research on community philanthropy in the rural South,” said Dr. Charlotte L. Williams, director of the Center on Community Philanthropy. “We will continue to study and promote the concept of giving and sharing at the local level, particularly in the Delta region of Arkansas.”
The Foundation Review study, titled, “Community Philanthropy: How the Delta Region Revives, Embraces and Promotes the Spirit of Giving,” was conducted in partnership with the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation. Clinton School graduate Joanna Klak assisted in conducting the study. Click here to purchase the study online.
The study surveyed government officials in small Arkansas Delta communities with populations ranging from 5,000 to 15,000. It asked questions related to civic engagement, fundraising and leadership to explore how community philanthropy is making essential contributions to communities in the struggling Delta region.
