First Female 4-star Gen. Ann Dunwoody Speaks

Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – General Ann Dunwoody, America’s first female 4-star general, discussed her career and her vision for public service in America at the Clinton School today.

Dunwoody, who serves as commander of the Army Materiel Command, which is responsible for equipping, outfitting and arming all soldiers, compared the missions of the Clinton School and the Army, saying they “both share a passion for public service.”

She also chronicled her own personal journal from wanting to be a mom and physical education teacher to becoming a full-time army officer. After signing up for two years of duty that came with financial support for college, Dunwoody was surprised to find herself enthralled with military service.

“Once I donned a uniform, soldiering was all I wanted to do,” she said.

Saying that only three of every 10 Americans ages 17-24 qualify to serve in the Army, Dunwoody lamented the need to address inherent problems in America.

“We need to create and nurture a culture of public service,” she said.

A video of her lecture will be posted soon at Clinton School Speakers
