Posted by ERIC WILSON – Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson spoke at the Clinton School today to a capacity crowd about his transition from the NBA to the political arena and about the need for bipartisanship in government.
After setting records as a three-time NBA all-star, the former Phoenix Suns guard retired in 2000 and returned to the Oak Park neighborhood of Sacramento to become CEO of St. HOPE, a nonprofit he founded in 1989 to revitalize inner-city communities. In November 2008, Johnson became the first African American mayor of Sacramento, Calif.
Johnson did express his desire for a Lakers and Cavaliers NBA playoff final. He’s not supporting either team; he just wants to see LeBron James go head-to-head with Kobe Bryant.
Video of Johnson’s presentation will be posted at www.clintonschoolspeakers.com in the coming days.
