Posted by DEAN SKIP RUTHERFORD – There’s a distinct possibility that two former residents of Arkansas’s Governor Mansion: former First Lady Hillary Clinton and former Governor Mike Huckabee will be on the November 2008 presidential election ballot. For a small Southern state with six electoral votes, the two carry on the presidential campaign traditions of Arkansans Bill Clinton (1992 and 1996) and Wes Clark (2004). We now have a generation of people who could believe if you run for president you need to spend some time in Arkansas. Certainly the Clinton and Huckabee campaigns are special experiences for Clinton School students.
We’re hosting a January 3 Iowa Caucus election night watch party at the Clinton School beginning at 7:30 p.m. Reservations can made by emailing: publicprograms@clintonschool.uasys.edu
At this watch party, via speakerphone, we will be talking with various political operatives and journalists, including former Iowa Republican Representative Jim Leach, who is now director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard’s Kennedy School. Former Arkansas Democratic Senator Dale Bumpers will be among those who call in as well. We’ll also chat with Clinton School student James Mitchell of Cleveland, Miss., who will be on the ground in Des Moines, Iowa and Clinton School student Tim Giattina of Birmingham, Ala., who will be on the ground in Manchester, N.H.–a state which votes five days later on January 8.
