How You Can Help those Impacted by Arkansas River Flooding

With record flood waters impacting towns and counties along the Arkansas River, please consider your options to donate dollars or items to those in need.

  • One option for donations and volunteer opportunities is the American Red Cross. To volunteer to assist with this disaster or a future disaster, visit RedCross.org. Red Cross operated shelters, which feed and provide emotional support to victims of disaster, are open in Fort Smith, Dardanelle, Russellville, Conway, and North Little Rock. Those who need to find a shelter may visit RedCross.org/Shelter, download the free Red Cross Emergency app, or call 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767).
  • Another organization raising funds for flood victims is Arkansas Foodbank. Visit the Arkansas Foodbank website, or donate through the organization’s fundraiser on Facebook.
  • The United Way of Fort Smith is accepting donation items for flood victims and looking for volunteers in multiple counties. To donate to the United Way of Fort Smith, you can text ‘Flood2019’ to 91999.
  • The Salvation Army of Fort Smith is accepting online donations to feed local flood victims. You can also donate by calling 479-783-6145. More information on how you can help can be found on the organization’s Facebook page.
  • A collaborative effort through the Arkansas Homeless Coalition and the City of Little Rock is underway to secure needed camping supplies to assist persons experiencing homelessness who have lost belongings in the flooding. The most requested items by persons sleeping outdoors who have lost camps to flooding are: tents, tarps, sleeping bags, blankets and camping supplies. Clothing is not needed at this time; shoes, socks, and new underwear are always needed and will be accepted. These specific items (no clothing) may be dropped off at the Willie Hinton Neighborhood Resource Center, 3805 W. 12th Street, Little Rock, Room 103 on weekdays between hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. You can also contact Chris Porter, the City of Little Rock Homeless Advocate, at 501-353-4610 for assistance.
