Posted by DEAN SKIP RUTHERFORD – When Katherine Ann, Drew and Dean Kumpuris of Little Rock established a Distinguished Lecture Series at the Clinton School in honor of their mother, Kula Kumpuris and in memory of their father Dr. Frank Kumpuris, we hoped it would be of great interest to the school, the city and the state. In partnership with the Clinton Foundation, AT&T Arkansas and the Dickinson and McGeorge families, the Kumpuris series has already exceeded that and more.
Friday night award winning actor Sam Waterston and the nation’s leading authority on Abraham Lincoln, Harold Holzer presented “Lincoln Seen and Heard,” featuring excerpts from Lincoln’s speeches, photographs of the late president and historical commentary. The program was so engaging that you almost felt Lincoln himself was in the room. Waterston has been playing the role of Lincoln on stage and screen for over 20 years and he’s very good at it. Holzer’s informative details about Lincoln’s life and what was happening in America at the time were signficiant additions.
“Lincoln Seen and Heard” was the third presentation in the Kumpuris lecture series. Previous speakers have included President Clinton, who was the inaugural guest at the family’s request and Former Secretary of State James Baker.
