Lings to Present Kumpuris Lecture

Laura Ling, one of the American journalists recently held captive in North Korea, and her sister Lisa Ling, a special correspondent for the Oprah Winfrey Show, National Geographic Explorer and CNN, will speak Thursday, August 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Clinton Center as part of the Frank and Kula Kumpuris Distinguished Lecture Series.

The Lings will discuss their new book, “Somewhere Inside: One Sister’s Captivity in North Korea and the Other’s Fight to Bring Her Home,” about Laura’s imprisonment and Lisa’s unrelenting campaign to get her sister released. To RSVP for this event, email kumpurislecture@clintonschool.uasys.edu.

Laura Ling and fellow Current TV journalist Euna Lee were captured on the China-North Korea border in March 2009 while working on a story about North Korean refugees. After a four-month imprisonment, the journalists were freed when President Clinton made a diplomatic mission to the country to secure their release.

The Kumpuris Lecture Series is sponsored by the Clinton School, the Clinton Foundation and AT&T.
