New UA System President Encourages Innovation in Higher Ed

The new University of Arkansas System President, Dr. Donald R. Bobbitt, spoke on Monday evening at the Clinton School about the need for innovation in today’s higher education system.

The value of a college education was discussed, comparing the United States to other countries and Arkansas to other states.

From China placing incentives on academic achievement to India’s increasingly educated population, a degree can help not only a student but society as a whole, Bobbitt said.

Bobbitt focused on the effectiveness of the United States’ current university system, as well as potential, innovative changes. He highlighted the benefits of technology, such as interactive online tools and social media.

“The hierarchy of higher education has not changed in a long time,” Bobbitt said.

Colleges and universities must be innovative and embrace online education as a tool to reach more students at a lower cost, Bobbitt said.

A video of Bobbitt’s lecture will be posted soon at
