Pickens Plan

Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Legendary oil and gas executive T. Boone Pickens touted his “Pickens Plan” to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil Tuesday night as part of the Frank and Kula Kumpuris Distinguished Lecture Series.

Talking to a packed house at the Clinton Center’s Great Hall, Pickens said 2009 is “a year of change for energy legislation” in America. Video of Picken’s lecture will be posted soon at www.clintonschoolspeakers.com.

Saying he believed in investing in anything American, Pickens said the country needs to utilize its abundant natural gas reserves for transportation fuel.

While America already imports more than 65 percent of its oil, Pickens said that number will jump to 75 in 10 years unless a new energy plan is adopted.

Renewable energy sources such as wind energy and solar power should be a major part of that plan, Pickens said.

Pickens is founder and chairman of BP Capital Management, which manages one of the nation’s most successful energy-oriented investment funds. He is currently pursuing a number of alternative energy business ventures, including Clean Energy, a company he founded to advance the use of natural gas as transportation fuel.

The Frank and Kula Kumpuris Distinguished Lecture Series is presented by the Clinton School, the William J. Clinton Foundation and AT&T.
