The Clinton School will host an afternoon of ice skating for children served by two local nonprofits.
Clinton School students, faculty and staff will join children from Safe Places, a violence prevention organization, and Arkansas Commitment, which promotes education and leadership among young African Americans, on Wednesday, November 17 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the new “Arvest River Market on Ice” skating rink. The group will be the first to hit the ice before the rink officially opens to the public on November 20.
The event is part of a public service project being completed by Clinton School student Mark Lienhart, who is working with the Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau (LRCVB) to create public service programming at the River Market.
“We’re excited to give these kids a chance to enjoy the ice rink,” Lienhart said. “This rink will be a major attraction this holiday season and it’s nice to start it off with an event like this that recognizes the work of great nonprofits like Safe Places and Arkansas Commitment.”
“We are very excited about the return of an outdoor ice rink over the holiday season in Little Rock, and are thrilled to partner with the Clinton School and support a public service initiative as the pre-opening event,” said Gretchen Hall, director of merchandising and communications at LRCVB. “We anticipate that the ice rink will attract many visitors and provide a great holiday experience for local families.”
Safe Places offers crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy and long-term supportive services for adults and children who are victims of family or sexual violence, child abuse, human trafficking and other violent crimes. For more information, visit www.safeplaceslr.org.
In conjunction with area school districts, Arkansas Commitment works to identify academically talented African-American high school students and to enhance their educations, careers and social leadership. For more information, visit www.arkansascommitment.org.
The outdoor ice rink is a joint effort by LRCVB, the Downtown Little Rock Partnership and Little Rock Parks and Recreation, and is sponsored by Arvest Bank, the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, Baptist Health and Airmasters. It will be open to the public from November 20 to January 9 at the River Market pavilion. For more information on the River Market on Ice celebration log on to www.HolidaysinLittleRock.com.
