DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. HOLIDAY – January 20
The Clinton School will be closed Monday, January 20 in commemoration of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday. The University of Arkansas system campuses began observing the King Holiday in 1999 after UofA Student Body President and now State Representative Warwick Sabin of Little Rock championed the effort.
In observance of the King Holiday, the Clinton School encourages people to have a “day on” of service and, if possible, to support individual causes and organizations of their choice. One organization with a budget shortfall, the Salvation Army, is highlighted below.
CLASS OF 2016 ADMISSION APPLICATION DEADLINE – January 25
The deadline for applying to the Clinton School Master of Public Service (MPS) degree program is soon approaching. Applications for enrollment in the Fall 2014 Clinton School class must be postmarked by January 25, 2014. As the first school in the nation to offer the MPS degree, the Clinton School provides a unique experience among American graduate schools. The school seeks students who are both eager to expand their academic experience and apply their knowledge to make a difference in the lives of others in the field.
During the two-year degree program, students complete three field service projects — a team-based project in Arkansas during the first year, an international public service project during the summer, and a final individual project during the second year. Clinton School students have completed international projects in 68 countries since the school opened in 2005. They’ve worked on efforts to improve health care, foster economic development, increase educational attainment, and fight hunger and poverty across the world.
Admission to the Clinton School is determined by several factors including academic background, graduate admissions test scores, public service experience, and personal vision for future public service. Students may also pursue concurrent degrees in Law with the UALR Bowen School of Law; in Public Health with the UAMS Boozman College of Public Health; or in Business Administration with the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Walton College of Business.

HELPING THE SALVATION ARMY
Due to the shortened holiday season and the ice storms that swept through central Arkansas, the Salvation Army was unable to ring bells at their signature red kettles for many days. As a result, the organization is facing a budget shortfall.
In support of our neighbor, the Clinton School wants to help the Salvation Army fulfill its mission of Doing the Best for our neighbors in need. Funds raised through the Red Kettle Campaign support programs that serve over 85,000 meals per year at the Salvation Army’s soup kitchen, provide holiday gifts to over 4,500 children each year through the Angel Tree and provide over 16,000 collective nights of shelter each year at the Center of Hope Shelter in downtown Little Rock.
