Clinton School student Jordan Aibel (’13) won second place prize in the Innovate Arkansas small business entrepreneur competition for his invention of a mobile application that calculates currency exchange rates for people traveling internationally.
The application, called Currency Exchange, identifies currency exchange institutions in the user’s area and lists the exchange rates offered at each. Aibel received $400 for his second-place finish and has further plans to develop his idea.
“The aim is to provide travelers with more complete information so that they save on exchanging currency when traveling abroad,” Aibel said. “I am developing a business plan for the application as part of an elective course I am enrolled in at UALR, and am hoping to move into the development phase soon.”
Innovate Arkansas is a joint program of Winrock International and the Arkansas Economic Development Commission. The program works with technology-based entrepreneurs to turn inventions and high-tech concepts into viable businesses.
The competition was held at Vino’s in downtown Little Rock and winners were chosen by a vote of the audience in attendance.
