Clinton School student Jack Lofton has partnered with Our House, a Little Rock-based shelter for the working homeless, to produce a short documentary film to highlight the experiences and work of those involved in the organization.
A detailed look at the intricacies of Our House and the realities of what the homeless residents enrolled in the program encounter, “This is Our House” will premier Tuesday, May 10 at 5:00 p.m. at the Clinton School. The screening will occur before a showing of the documentary “Bridge to War Eagle,” which will screen at 6:00 p.m. as part of the Clinton School Speaker Series.
Lofton, an Arkansas native, completed the film for his final project in the Clinton School’s Master of Public Service (MPS) degree program. The film also documents the effect that Our House’s work has on the individual, their families and the community.
Our House will utilize the film to tell the organization’s story and to connect with volunteers, donors and future residents.
Over a five-month period, Lofton produced, filmed and edited the 15-minute short film. By embedding himself in the organization, he captured footage of the day-to-day experiences of the homeless residents and Our House staff.
Working with the Our House residents, staff and executive director Georgia Mjartan, Lofton documented the expansive work and programs offered by the organization.
“We are excited to be involved with the project,” Mjartan said. “We hope the film will give Our House another means to engage and inform our community about the stories of our residents and the work of our organization.”
In addition to the informational and promotional uses, the film will be submitted to film festivals across the country.
Lofton, executive director of the Little Rock Film Festival, will graduate from the Clinton School in May.
