Students Get Peak of Wetlands

A group of Clinton School students got a sneak peek Thursday of the Bill Clark Wetlands on the grounds of the Clinton Presidential Center. The $2 million project is currently under construction and set to open this fall.

Organized by Mark Lienart (’11), the tour was led by Mark Webre of the Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department.

The wetlands will feature and “upper” portion with paths and pavilions, as well as a “lower” portion that will remain untouched by visitors. Designers will plant native vegetation and create a natural environment to house many types of plants and animals.

A bat house on the northwest side of the wetlands will hold up to 23,000 bats.

The wetlands is named for the late William E. “Bill” Clark, former CEO of CDI Contractors which built the Clinton Center. Friends of Clark donated more than $600,000 toward the cost of the project.
