Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Together with students from UALR’s Bowen School of Law, several Clinton School students completed an economic development survey of the stretch of Little Rock’s Main Street between I-630 and Roosevelt Road. The project benefits the work of Southside Main Street (SoMa), a non-profit group working to revitalize the area.
As part of the two school’s joint Altheimer Public Service Program, the students partnered with Southside Main Street to complete the survey and throw a block party for the neighborhood earlier this month. The surveys went to neighborhood residents and business owners to determine the best ways to enhance the community. Highlights include:

*The most requested new businesses: (1) drug store (2) bookstore (3) gourmet market (4) women/men boutique
*The types of restaurants people would most like to see: (1) Italian (2) Seafood (3) Home Cooking/Soul Food (4) Mexican (5) Chinese (6) Sushi.
*The community assets favored (1) Streetscape (2) Park (3) Community Gardens (4) Walking Trail
*46.5 percent of respondents would prefer new housing construction be single units.
*The most needed services: (1) youth education programs (2) medical clinics and doctors (3) dental offices (4) recycling (5) adult education programs.

Responses
