As part of their coursework, four Clinton School students will develop a public communications plan to raise awareness of critical public services that benefit children and families in Arkansas.
In partnership with Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, the students will gather stories about ways that state tax revenues create opportunity for Arkansas residents and draw business investment state.
The plan will launch in the days leading up to Tax Day in April 2012 to remind taxpayers about critical services funded by their tax dollars, said Richard Huddleston, executive director of Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families.
“Connecting the public systems and services we all rely on to the taxes that support them is an important part of our advocacy work,” Huddleston said. “We’re excited to see the creativity and passion that these students will bring to getting that message out to Arkansans.”
Clinton School students Mitchell Adams of Morrilton, Ark., Rebecca Scissors of Ellicott City, Md., Yana-Janell Scott of Little Rock and Sydney Shearer of Nashville, Tenn., bring prior non-profit and community engagement experience to this project.
“The students will be making a meaningful contribution to the organization while learning valuable skills,” said Huddleston.
The project is one of 10 to be completed by 38 Clinton School students across the state of Arkansas. The students are in their first semester of classes in the school’s Master of Public Service degree program.
