Last week, the newest Clinton School students traveled across the city and state for their first visits to the sites of the 2012-13 Practicum public service projects.
Thirteen student teams visited the locations of partner organizations in Arkadelphia, Helena-West Helena, Little Rock and Newport. This was the students’ first chance to see firsthand the work of the organizations that they would partner with throughout the school year. Click here to learn more about the projects.
The Practicum program is the first of three projects the students will complete in the school’s field service program.
They will earn academic credit for their work on the projects, which include efforts to fight poverty, improve the lives of veterans, support individuals with disabilities and their families, increase access to legal services, reduce the rate of recidivism and provide health services to underserved populations, among others.
“This was the student’s first taste of the hands-on nature of our program here at the Clinton School,” said Julianne Dunn, assistant director of field service education. “Getting out in the field to apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom is what our program is all about.”
