Renee Tyler (’20), Community Services Director for the City of Eau Claire, Wis., has been selected to serve on the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Project of the Year Committee.
As a member of the committee, Tyler will work to enhance the visibility and awareness of public works through the recognition of public works project, including selecting projects for the Public Works Project of the Year. Tyler will begin her one-year term on August 29.
“The Public Work’s Project of the Year recognizes the design and thought put into community projects whether it be the restoration of a brown field into a beautiful park, a bridge or a playground that is designed for people with disabilities,” Tyler said. “The resident seldom realizes the care that is put into creating communities that everyone desires to live in. This is a small effort to recognize those community contributions.”
Additionally, Tyler has been reappointed to serve on the APWA’s National Government Affairs Committee.
The Government Affairs Committee is responsible for identifying, drafting, and leading the promotion of APWA’s public policy priorities. The committee drafts public policy priorities representative of APWA’s broad membership and obtains approval from APWA’s Board of Directors on the identified priorities per each Congressional cycle.
Tyler previously served a two-year term on the APWA Committee for Diversity and Inclusion and graduated from the association’s Emerging Leaders Academy.
Tyler’s career in public service has spanned various positions in different states across the country.
Prior to her time in Eau Claire, Tyler was the Director of Transportation Services for the City of Dubuque, Iowa, and was employed by the City of Little Rock from 2013 to 2016 as a fleet acquisition, parts, and special projects manager.
Her previous experience includes serving as executive administrator to the CEO of RVM Enterprises, an eDiscovery and consulting services firm in New York, N.Y.; chief of staff to New Jersey Assemblyman Jerry Green in the New Jersey General Assembly in Plainfield, N.J.; and assistant to the CEO of the Promontory Financial Group in New York, N.Y.
Tyler was among the first group of students to graduate from the Clinton School’s online degree program. In addition to her Master of Public Service, she earned her bachelor’s degree in social welfare from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
