Posted by ERIC WILSON – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff UAPB marching band is still seeking help in raising $204,000 to send its crew to Washington, D.C., to march in President-elect Brarack Obama’s inauguration parade. The opportunity for the UAPB band to play in its first presidential inauguration parade was highlighted today in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette:
“This is by far the best thing I’ll experience as a student and member of the marching band,” said Edwin Spinks, a saxophonist and drum major from Detroit. “It’s a great ending to my experience here at the university.”
Spinks graduated with a psychology degree in December but will play in Washington with the UAPB band, one of more than 90 ensembles invited to play at the inauguration parade. Nearly 1,400 organizations, including bands, applied to march the 1.7 miles from the Capitol to the White House, according to the Presidential Inaugural Committee’s Web site.
