Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Florida State star safety and 2008 Rhodes Scholar Myron Rolle packed the Clinton School last night with a crowd mixed with Arkansas college presidents, legislators and members of the Little Rock Central High School football team. Rolle told his amazing story of finishing a pre-med Exercise Science degree in two and a half years, earning numerous honors for his on-field play and deciding to put his football career on hold to study this summer at Oxford.
A projected first- or second-round pick, Rolle will train for the 2010 NFL draft while he’s earning a master’s in Medical Anthropology at Oxford. At the Clinton School, he recounted a Saturday in the fall when he interviewed for and won the Rhodes before taking a private flight to the Seminoles’ game against Maryland, arriving in the second quarter to a standing ovation from fans of both teams.
Rolle was the nation’s No. 1 high school recruit in 2006. When asked about his recruitment he recalled that his top priority was going to a school that would accept his Advanced Placement credits and allow him to enroll a semester early to get a leg up academically. He chose FSU over Michigan, Miami, Oklahoma and others.
