Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Award-winning filmmaker and friend of the Clinton School Patrick Creadon, creator of the hit crossword puzzle documentary “Wordplay,” brought his latest film about the mounting federal debt to the Clinton School on Sunday afternoon. “I.O.U.S.A,” follows former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker and Bob Bixby of the Concord Coaltion on their national “Fiscal Wake-up Tour,” to raise awareness for the U.S. government’s mounting debt of more than $9 trillion.
The film presents the historical background of the U.S. debt as it relates to the federal budget, the growing trade deficit, the expanding military and over extended entitlement programs, among other factors. The film presents a bipartisan array of prominent fiscal experts calling attention to the problem, including billionaire investor Warren Buffett, Congressman Ron Paul, former Federal Reserve chairmen Paul Volcker and Alan Greenspan, and former Treasury Secretaries Paul O’Neill and Robert Rubin.
Creadon was hired by the non-partisan “Fiscal Wake-up Tour” to make the film. “I guess they assumed if we could make something like crosswords seem interesting, we could do the same with a subject like economics,” Creadon joked.
