Clinton School students will celebrate World Toilet Day this weekend by participating in an event to show solidarity with the more than 2.6 billion people who lack proper sanitation worldwide.
World Toilet Day is marked on November 19 each year by the World Toilet Organization (WTO), which was founded in 2001 to help reach the nearly 40 percent of the world’s population who lack adequate, clean sanitation.
The students will mark the event on 12:15 p.m. on Friday at the Bill Clark Wetlands.
Clinton School students Heath Carelock (’12) and Ryan Williams (’12) completed their international public service projects last summer with the World Toilet Organization, which is based in Singapore.
Carelock developed impact assessment measures for World Toilet Day’s advocacy. His efforts included reconstructing the event’s strategic plan and assembling best practices on advocacy.
Williams’ project focused on improving the menstrual health of rural women and girls facing infection from using unsanitary menstrual cloth.
