2007 Winding Down

Posted by DEAN SKIP RUTHERFORD – It’s been a relaxing break with family and friends. Good people, good food, and good conversation. Also, I recommend two good movies: “The Great Debaters”  starring Denzel Washington, which is based on a true and very remarkable story, and “Charlie Wilson’s War,” which has been nominated for several Golden Globes and is based on a book by George Crile. I’ve just started reading the book–which was a Christmas gift from a friend. Look for both of these movies to be represented in Academy Award nominations.

Over the holidays, I’ve heard from several Clinton School students who are traveling all over the the world. We’re also continuing to confirm guest speakers who will “call in” to our Iowa Caucus watch party on January 3. Already among many confirmed participants include commentator and consultant Paul Begala, who coined “The Comeback Kid” phrase for Bill Clinton in 1992, and New York Times national correspondent Adam Nossiter. We have two students working in Iowa: Carly Benkov and J.D. Lowery. James Mitchell is in route to the Hawkeye State and his daily Clinton School blogs about the Iowa caucus start later this week. Fellow student Tim Giattina leaves today for Manchester, N.H., where he will remain until after the January 8 primary.

I can’t let 2007 end without once again thanking our generous donors, our wonderful volunteers, our dedicated faculty and staff and our talented students for all they do to make the Clinton School successful.
