A Potential Miss USA?

Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Clinton School student Chanley Painter, Miss Arkansas USA, will soon travel to Las Vegas to compete in the Miss USA pageant. Chanley is an outstanding student in the JD/MPS program both at the Clinton School and the UALR Bowen School of Law where she is ranked in the top of her class. She’s a black belt in Taekwando and an Arkansas fiddle champion.

The Log Cabin Democrat in Conway, Chanley’s hometown, caught up with her recently before she headed to Kansas City for Miss USA “boot camp.” Here’s an excerpt.

Painter said she has enjoyed her career in pageants and has “always dreamt about being Miss USA,” but she first got into pageants as a means of furthering her education.

“I started doing pageants when I needed scholarship money for law school,” she said. “Because of my participation in the competition I earned enough money to pay for my first two years of law school (at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law), which dad really appreciated.

“There’s definitely practical reasons in (pageants),” she continued, “Pageants like this really offer practical situations to practice life skills, like public speaking and interviews and building your resume.”
