Posted by ERIC WILSON – Ambassador Said Jawad’s visit to the Clinton School to discuss current U.S. – Afghan relations received a lot of attention in the media. President Barrack Obama is currently weighing Army General Stanley McChrystal’s recommendation to deploy 40,000 additional U.S. troops to Afghanistan. In his lecture, Jawad expressed his country’s support for McChrystal’s proposal.
After his speech, Jawad told The Associated Press that his country understood Obama needed time to weigh the decision, but that too much time could embolden Taliban and al-Qaida fighters.
“We should hear a commitment to success. The detail could be worked out (in) an appropriate way by his advisers,” the ambassador said. “We have to make sure that the Taliban and al-Qaida understand that there will be no chance that they will win again in Afghanistan.”
