Application Deadline One Month Away

Today marks one month until the application deadline for admission to the Clinton School in the fall of 2011. The school encourages those interested in pursuing a Master of Public Service (MPS) degree to apply by January 15, 2011.

The Clinton School is the first to offer the MPS degree, which is designed to help students gain the knowledge and experience to further their careers in government, nonprofit, volunteer and private sector service.

The school has a diverse student body from across Arkansas, the country and the world. Current students have come to the Clinton School with past experiences ranging from service in Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Teach for America and the military, to work in government, politics, business and the nonprofit sector.

“We welcome an array of talented students who desire to study and practice public service,” said Clinton School Dean Skip Rutherford. “We provide a program with exciting courses and experiences to help you gain the knowledge and skills to make a positive difference in the world.”

In addition to a unique set of courses, the school offers students the chance to participate in three for-credit public service projects, both domestically and internationally.

In the past five years, Clinton School students have traveled to more than 45 countries and completed over 100 public service projects in partnership with government and non-government organizations. Students have also completed a number of local projects in Arkansas, such as economic development efforts in the Mississippi River Delta region.

“We are looking for applicants who have not only excelled in the classroom but also shown a commitment to public service through their experiences,” said Alex Thomas, director of admissions at the Clinton School.

Clinton School graduates have gone on to careers in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Employers of Clinton School graduates include the Walmart Foundation, the World Bank, the Clinton Foundation, City Year, the Arkansas Department of Human Services and the Pat Tillman Foundation, among others.

The MPS degree is an affordable option, especially in trying economic times, with the full 36-hour program costing less than $15,000 and numerous opportunities for financial aid.

Additionally, admitted MPS students who are interested may pursue concurrent degree programs in Law with the UALR Bowen School of Law; in Public Health with the UAMS Boozman College of Public Health; or in Business Administration with the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Sam Walton College of Business.
