Posted by DEAN SKIP RUTHERFORD – ABC News Anchor Bob Woodruff, who was critically injured while reporting in Iraq, spoke Friday night as part of the Clinton School Speaker Series. Bob’s remarks about his work, his injuries and his recovery were powerful and inspirational. He praised his family and friends, the United States Military and ABC News for their dedication and devotion. Over 1,000 people–one of our largest public programs to date–packed Robinson Center to hear him. He later had a meeting and photos with Clinton School students and also signed hundreds of books. Wordsworth Books in Little Rock has a few extra signed copies if you are interested.
Before Bob’s speech, we “passed the hat” to raise money for tornado relief in Arkansas and to assist our recent graduate, Wambui Ngugi of Nairobi, Kenya, who is working on relief efforts in her suffering homeland. In what was an overwhelming show of support, we raised over $7,500. I sincerely thank all who participated.
This weekend our director of development Eric Wilson is leading a team of Clinton School students and staff who are assisting in tornado recovery efforts in Van Buren and Pope Counites in Arkansas. Many of our students, who are completing their Master in Public Service (MPS) degrees, have experience in this area having worked post Katrina in New Orleans and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
