Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Awarding-winning Boston Globe editor Martin Baron spoke Tuedsay at the Clinton School about the struggling newspaper business and the decline of investigative reporting in America. Baron said the rise of the Internet and the decline in newspaper readership has shrunk newspaper staffs and news coverage at papers throughout the country. Citizens will soon have to determine the value they place on the work of the press, he said.
Baron became editor of the Globe in 2001, leading the paper to four Pulitzer Prizes in his short tenure. Named 2005 “Editor of the Year” by the National Press Foundation, he previously held top editing positions at The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Miami Herald. He was also named “Editor of the Year” by Editor & Publisher Magazine in 2001 for his work at the Herald.
