Tim Campbell (’21) has been appointed the City of Little Rock’s Racial and Cultural Diversity Commission. Campbell will serve as Little Rock’s Ward 1 Representative.
The Racial and Cultural Diversity Commission, which began in 1994 as part of the city’s FUTURE Little Rock program, is committed to collaborating with individuals and organizations in an effort to realize goals for equity in all facets of the community.
The commission’s mission is to ensure that all the residents of Little Rock and everyone subject to its jurisdiction enjoy equal freedom to pursue their aspirations without discrimination because of race, ethnicity, color, or national origin.
“I’m excited to join a championed group of passionate individuals about the direction of racial and cultural diversity,” Campbell said. “My aim for the commission is to provide educational and experiential-based feedback that will ultimately push the needle forward concerning community engagement and growth in the city of Little Rock.”
Campbell’s service on the Racial and Cultural Diversity Commission is the latest in a line of efforts devoted to racial equity and social justice.
He was sworn in to the Pulaski County Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee in March 2021 and served as a member of Governor Asa Hutchinson’s Task Force to Advance the State of Law Enforcement in Arkansas. In the summer of 2020, he led peaceful protests in Little Rock following the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.
Recently, he participated in an event hosted by the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, presenting on topics including the civil rights and Black Lives Matters movements and women and youth activism.
As part of his Capstone project, the Clinton School’s final field service project, Campbell partnered with the Arkansas Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission to raise awareness for Little Rock’s Historic Ninth Street District, once a prominent African American business district located in the city’s downtown area.
In addition to earning his Master of Public Service, Campbell graduated from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff with a degree in health and wellness.
