Released in December 2023 and developed by faculty, students, and alumni from the Clinton School of Public Service, the Arkansas Civic Health Index is the state’s first comprehensive report on civic engagement.
Using data from the National Conference on Citizenship, a survey of Arkansas mayors, and interviews with state residents and civic leaders, the report provides a detailed snapshot of civic life in Arkansas.
It highlights key strengths – like neighborliness and charitable giving – alongside serious challenges in the state, including the lowest voter registration and voter turnout rates in the nation.
The report evaluates Arkansas’s political participation, community connection, and civic infrastructure, and offers recommendations to strengthen civic education and dialogue.
The Winthrop Rockefeller Institute’s Civic Arkansas initiative is now using the report to lead statewide listening sessions and convenings, turning the Index’s insights into action for a more informed, connected, and engaged Arkansas.
The Clinton School Impact Minute is a recurring segment with Little Rock Public Radio, highlighting the Clinton School’s field service impact.
Since 2004, Clinton School students have completed nearly 700 field service projects with more than 300 organizations in Arkansas alone, creating immediate and long-term impact for businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies across the state.
