Clinton School Impact Minute: Peer Support Recovery Specialists

Bonnie Stribling enrolled at the Clinton School of Public Service as a single mother in recovery. Motivated by her own experiences, Stribling knew from the start that she wanted to focus her field service work on supporting young people battling addiction.

From her final Capstone project, she collaborated with the Arkansas Department of Human Services to design a program that enables certified Peer Recovery Support Specialists to assist young people as they transition out of incarceration. These specialists, drawing from their own experiences with addiction recovery, provide crucial support, resources, and guidance during the re-entry process.

In 2023, her proposal secured legislative approval and funding through the American Rescue Plan. Stribling now oversees the program, which launched in Fall 2023.

Currently, she works full-time as a grant manager at the Arkansas Department of Human Services’ Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health, leading projects aimed at expanding recovery support services for women and families across Arkansas.

The Clinton School Impact Minute is a recurring segment with Little Rock Public Radio, highlighting the Clinton School’s field service impact in.

Since 2004, Clinton School students have completed nearly 700 field service projects with more than 300 organizations in Arkansas alone, creating immediate and long-term impact for businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies across the state.
