Clinton School Impact Minute: PicoSolar

From classrooms to clean energy innovation, Trish Flanagan has always looked for ways to make an impact.

With experience teaching social studies in Texas and running after school programs in California, she found the MPS-MBA dual degree at the Clinton School of Public Service and Walton College of Business to be the perfect fit.

For her Capstone project, Flanagan developed an educational tool to help students understand social entrepreneurship—a skill she put to work in the world of business.

She joined Picasolar, a University of Arkansas startup team with a game-changing technology to boost solar panel efficiency by 15 percent while cutting manufacturing costs. Flanagan’s team won over $300,000 in business plan competitions, including first place at the MIT Clean Energy Prize and Canada’s IBK Capital-Ivey Business Plan Competition.

Her work didn’t stop there. After graduation, she led the U of A’s Social Entrepreneurship Pilot Initiative, helping more innovators turn bold ideas into real-world solutions.

The Clinton School Impact Minute is a recurring segment with Little Rock Public Radio, highlighting the Clinton School’s field service impact.

Since 2004, Clinton School students have completed nearly 700 field service projects with more than 300 organizations in Arkansas alone, creating immediate and long-term impact for businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies across the state.
