Clinton School Students, Graduates Selected for Civility Leadership Institute

Five students and graduates from the Clinton School of Public Service at the University of Arkansas have been selected for the second class of the Civility Leadership Institute, a leadership development program sponsored by Renew America Together.

The current students selected for the program include Kwami Abdul-Bey, Meghann Ray, and Kate Zakrzewski. Graduates Jessica DeLoach (’17) and Lea Metz (’22) were also selected as participants.

Renew American Together is a nonprofit dedicated to bridging political divides. General Wesley Clark, who grew up in Little Rock and retired as a four-star general after 38 years in the United States Army, is the founder of Renew America Together.

“I look forward to bringing the first two cohorts together for our first Summit on Civility in Little Rock later this month,” said Gen. Clark. “These leaders have different racial and ethnic backgrounds, geographic locations, career tracks, political beliefs, and industries. To see these dynamic individuals recognize the need for improved communication and civic engagement is encouraging.”

Civility Leadership Institute participants will begin their journey by attending the Summit on Civility July 27-29. Each month of follow-up will allow participants to work through an exciting curriculum, hear from nationally recognized speakers, and strengthen their relationships with one another. Upon graduation, individuals will be a part of an alumni network that will have continuous opportunities to work together and participate in special events.

The institute’s participants will gain insights about themselves and others and build leadership skills that will enable them to better communicate across the political spectrum. Participants will also apply what they learn to real-life situations where the consequences of their leadership matter.

Additionally, Civility Leadership Institute graduates will receive professional certifications in Crucial Conversations for Mastering Dialogue, TypeCoach Influence Training, and will participate in a six-month follow-up program to continue building relationships with one another and measuring their progress and accomplishments.
