Clinton School to Host Albanian Scholar

University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service will host Dr. Dorian Jano, executive director with the Albanian Institute of Public Affairs and Lecturer of European Studies at University Marin Barleti in Tirana, Albania, August 16 through September 14.

Dr. Jano’s visit is made possible by a faculty exchange program the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service has with University Marin Barleti. His visit is the inaugural faculty visit of this exchange. This also will be Dr. Jano’s first trip to the United States.

He has been awarded a prestigious Jean Monnet Chair by the European Commission. The three-year project for this chair, “EU Enlargement and its Impact on the Western Balkans (WBINTEG)” will have its inaugural lecture at the Clinton School of Public Service.

During his time in Arkansas, Dr. Jano will be giving a number of presentations on European politics, focusing primarily on the Europeanization and EU integration of the Western Balkan states. A public program has been scheduled at the Clinton School for Friday August 29 at 12:00 p.m. Other programs have been scheduled at Philander Smith College, the University of Central Arkansas, and Hendrix College.

“We are honored to welcome Dr. Jano and we are grateful to Dr. Christy Standerfer of the Clinton School for coordinating his visit,” said Clinton School Dean Skip Rutherford. “Dr. Standerfer spent a year in Albania as a Fulbright Scholar and we currently have two students in Albania working on their international public service projects this summer.”

Dr. Jano, 34, received his PhD in Political Studies from the University of Milan. He also holds a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Research and Studies on Eastern Europe (MIREES) from the University of Bologna, and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. After completing his studies, Dr. Jano served as research fellow at the Institute for European Integration at the Europa-Kolleg Foundation in Hamburg, Germany. He has also been a NewDem research fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Collegium Budapest (Hungary).

His academic interest and research focuses on EU enlargement, Europeanization and South-Eastern Europe. He has presented on these topics at international conferences and has been published in international peer-reviewed academic journals.
