Posted by DEAN SKIP RUTHERFORD – We have two excellent public programs at the Clinton School this week. Dan Glickman of Washington D.C, the CEO of the Motion Picture Association, will speak Tuesday February 27 at 6 p.m. His appearance couldn’t be more timely given the Academy Awards only two days before. As Secretary of Agriculture, Dan served in the Clinton Cabinet with Vice President Al Gore. It will be interesting to hear what he says about “An Inconvenient Truth.” A reception will follow his remarks.
Thursday March 1 at 11:30 a.m. we will welcome Claiborne Deming, the CEO of Murphy Oil Company. Claiborne has long been a strong proponent of public education and most recently announced Murphy’s donation of $50 million to provide college scholarships for graduates from El Dorado (Ark) High School. The “El Dorado Promise” is only one of many good things Claiborne has done and is doing. He is one of the state’s and the nation’s outstanding corporate leaders, public servants and philanthropists. We’ve been friends a long time and I am honored to have him at the Clinton School. This is one you will not want to miss. Bring your brown bag lunch. We’ll provide the soft drinks and bottled water.

A special thanks to all who contributed and helped provide American flag tshirts and watches to 16 Tsunami orphans, ages 11 to 18, in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The package was sent to them last week, and we are most grateful.
We enjoyed having Trooper Sanders, Former President Clinton’s Domestic Policy Advisor; Former Congressman J.C. Watts of Oklahoma; David Wilhelm, an Ohio venture capitalist and Clinton 1992 campaign manager, and John Wilson, President of the National Education Association at the Clinton School last week. We very much appreciated the time they spent with our students. Check out the Clinton School Research Center web site to hear what they had to say. Though he didn’t have time to visit the school, it was a pleasure meeting with Mark Shriver with Save the Children while I gave him a tour of the Clnton Library. You will recognize the Shriver name. His father was the first Peace Corps director; his Uncle (John F. Kennedy) was President of the United States and his sister, Maria, is married to the Governor of California. We have invited Mark back to speak at the Clinton School and look forward to him being here.
