Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Former Bush strategist Matthew Dowd said today at the Clinton School that President Obama is losing America’s support for health care reform.
A top campaign aide to former President George W. Bush and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dowd said polling shows that Obama’s support is falling and that Republicans will likely pick up seats in both houses of Congress in next year’s mid-term elections.
Dowd said Obama needed to use a bipartisan approach to win support back from both Congress and voters. He said such an approach would lead to good policy for the country.
Dowd has worked for both Republicans and Democrats throughout his 25-year political career. He became a Republican in 1999 when he joined Bush’s presidential campaign, but as noted below, he broke with the president over a number of issues in late 2007.
