Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Al Bavon

In the second installment of our Faculty Spotlight, we highlight the efforts of Dr. Al Bavon, professor of public administration, who has worked with Vital Voices on the McLarty Global Fellows Program, a joint project with the Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas.

This summer, fellows in the program will work with women in Ghana who own small businesses to identify the challenges they face.

Bavon’s scholarship this year included presented at the Weight of the Nation Conference in Washington, D.C., and the International School Social Work Conference in Accra, Ghana. He also authored a chapter titled “The Challenges and Prospects of Counter Terrorism in Africa” in the book Counter Terrorism in Diverse Communities edited by Ekici.

Bavon currently is the principle investigator on two grants totalling $163,000 from the Arkansas Department of Health to study obesity in the state. He also was awarded $13,000 from the Adult Drug Court Discretionary Grant Program to evaluate the Arkansas Drug Court Program.
