Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe, Clinton School graduate Fay Kelle and the beloved Flat Stanley visited Hackett Elementary School in Hackett, Ark., to encourage the children there to read and learn about other cultures. Mrs. Beebe shared the story of Flat Stanley, the popular children’s book character, with the K-2nd grade students in Hackett. She encouraged them to read “The Adventures of Flat Stanley” and to learn from Flat’s experiences.
Fay then shared about her trip with Flat to Malawi, Africa, where she visited schools to promote the Project Citizen program, which encourages citizenship in schools throughout the world. Fay taught the Hackett students how to say “hello” in the native language of Malawi and shared some pictures and items she and Flat brought back from Africa.
This summer, like last summer, Mrs. Beebe will again send Flat Stanley’s all over the world with students from the Clinton School as they travel to their International Public Service Projects. They will keep Flat Stanley journals and take pictures with him in locations throughout the globe. When the students return, Mrs. Beebe will share Flat Stanley’s experiences with elementary children throughout Arkansas.
