Graduate Russell CareyHired by Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation

Russell Carey (‘13) has accepted a position as a program associate at the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation (WRF) in Little Rock. He will be part of a team that is working to achieve the overall “Moving the Needle” goal of reducing poverty in Arkansas.

As a program associate, he will focus on identifying and supporting policy and advocacy activities that accomplish WRF objectives, provide nonprofit organizations with information key to sustainable operations and continue the foundation’s work advocating for immigrants.

Carey was an assistant buyer for Dillard’s Inc. before coming to the Clinton School and leaves his position at Dillard’s with seven years of experience in for-profit business and data analysis. His experiences at the Clinton School were key to his connection with the position at the Foundation.

During his time at the school, Carey gained local and international experience with policy and communications. He was part of a team that developed recommendations for transitional foster youth services in Arkansas, and he independently evaluated and created recommendations for social media practices at the Desmond Tutu Peace Centre in Cape Town, South Africa, and multicultural recruitment and retention policies at the Schedler Honors College at the University of Central Arkansas.

He says his classroom and field experiences at the Clinton School and his business experience at Dillard’s have been invaluable. “The Clinton School allowed me to combine my business background with an education focused on positive social change. I had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with national leaders who are defining the future of nonprofit work. I was also able to work directly on projects that had positive impacts on the state of Arkansas and around the globe,” he said.
