A number of Clinton School graduates who living and working in Washington D.C., attended Monday’s presidential inauguration festivities.
Spencer Lucker (‘12) wrote a piece about his inauguration experience for the website haaretz.com (registration required). Here’s an excerpt of what he wrote:
As I looked around me I found myself – a white, Jewish American raised in the South – standing next to a family of African-Americans from Tennessee, a young man from New York accompanied by a foreign exchange student experiencing her first American ceremony, a couple proudly holding an American and gay-pride flag hand-in-hand, an older man from New Hampshire who had diligently volunteered his time to help elect President Obama, and thousands of others with similarly unique stories yet all proud of their heritage, their president, and their country. There was no African-American presence, no Jewish presence, no Hispanic presence, no LGBT presence. There was only an American presence; for today we stand together as American citizens, proud of our democracy and our country, ready to move forward into another four years.
Fernando Cutz (‘12), who works for USAID, sent along a video he took of the Little Rock Central High School marching band during the inaugural parade.
Additionally, Kim Caldwell (‘11), who works for Share Our Strength, sent us the photo to the right of her booth at the Share Our Strength Day of Service activities. Caldwell works with Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign.
